No previous BBQ or judging experience is required. We will teach you how the MWBA judging process works and what to look for when evaluating each entry.

Individuals must be at least 16 years old and capable of evaluating each entry fairly and independently. This ensures unbiased and professional judging for all participants. However, if you complete the MWBA BBQ judging class, you may be eligible to judge even if you are younger than 16. This training provides the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain the high standards expected at our events.

Yes! Judges taste samples from each entry. However, judging is about carefully evaluating the appearance, taste and tenderness—not simply choosing your favorite.
